California Sun Spa offers the latest laser technology to treat veins. Red superficial vessel treatment can be performed on face, legs, and the whole body.

FACIAL SPIDER VEINS are one of the most common facial conditions. These unsightly dilated blood vessels are seen on patients with fair skin, and are often associated with chronic sun exposure, rosacea, overuse of cortisone creams and certain immune diseases. Occasionally they may be hereditary. The linear and arborizing types are most commonly found around the nose and the spider types are common on the cheeks.

No anesthesia is needed for treatment of facial telangiectasis. The laser pulse feels like little snaps and can be easily tolerated by most patients. In most cases a transparent cooling gel is applied to the skin to increase comfort and decrease superficial blistering. After the proper laser setting is made, the individual vessels are "traced" with individual laser pulses.

LEG VEINS are a common problem affecting about 40% of women and 5% of men. Causes include heredity, hormones, prolonged standing, obesity and aging. Pregnancy is a common cause. The increase blood volume, hormone levels as well as pressure on the uterus affect veins. Leg veins have thicker walls and they are located deeper in the skin than facial veins. They can be divided into varicose veins, reticular veins and spider veins.

Laser has been used to treat leg veins since 1970's.

The ND YAG lasers, their long wavelength, deep penetration, and fair absorption by hemoglobin make them suitable for deeper larger veins and smaller surface veins.

How does Nd. YAG laser work?

The Nd. YAG laser produces a 1,064nm wavelength beam, delivered using Extended Duration Pulse technology. The ED pulse structure and duration is tailored to minimize damage to the epidermis. While the rest of the skin is almost completely transparent for this wavelength, it is comparatively absorbed in blood. Thus, the laser beam passes through and penetrates the targeted vessel. The laser energy heats up and coagulates blood inside the vessel. Unsupported vessel walls collapse and seal; these vessels later dissolve.

The laser energy is delivered through a hand-held device will a cooling tip. The cooling tip provides additional safety during the treatment by lowering the thermal effect on your skin surface. This non-invasive solution offers state-of-the-art alternative to previous, more invasive treatments, such as sclerotherapy. Laser beams destroy the unhealthy dermal vessels. Ultimately, this brings about remodeling and replacement of the old vessel with new, healthy ones.

How many treatments are required?

Depending on the severity of the veins it may be required anywhere between one and three treatments approximately six weeks apart. The treatment is performed on the existing vessels diminishing or completely eliminating their appearance. However, any new developing veins cannot be prevented. If the body tends to develop vascular problems it will be most likely needed to return for additional treatments. For more information click here
